Woman Faces Drunk Driving Charges After Crashing Into KCSD Patrol SUVA Leesburg woman was arrested after hitting a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department SUV with her Jeep and failing to stop afterward Sunday night.

Elayne Taylor Zalonis, 54, of 3417 E. CR 450N, Leesburg, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 12:19 a.m. today for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration of at least .15 and failure to stop after an accident. Her preliminary bond was set at $15,000.

According to a KCSD accident report, Zalonis was driving a 2012 Jeep Cherokee when she failed to stop at a stop sign and allegedly drove through a yard before traveling east on CR 450N, according to a caller.

KCSD Sgt. Travis Shively was on patrol in a marked police vehicle and responded to the call.

Shively was headed west on CR 450N near North Maple Way in his 2018 Ford Explorer when he saw the Jeep traveling east on CR 450N.

Zalonis appeared to be swerving across both lanes of traffic, and Shively activated his emergency lights so Zalonis would return to the correct lane of

travel. Shively reported he was nearly stopped when Zalonis crossed the center line and her Jeep struck the rear left corner of Shively’s patrol vehicle.

Shively reported Zalonis continued heading east.

The accident occurred at around 8:19 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of East CR 450N and North Maple Way, Warsaw.

Shively turned around and caught up with Zalonis and was able to signal her to stop.

No injuries were reported in the accident and Zalonis was arrested.

Damage was estimated at $5,000 to $10,000, according to the accident report.
