A woman claiming she was beaten by a Warsaw police officer has filed a notice of tort claim with the city.
Mary Ann Wood alleges she was physically beaten by Warsaw Police Officer Steven E. Rockey while attempting to check her son, Danny Wood, into the Bowen Center on Jan. 3. As a result of the alleged beating, Mary Ann Wood claims to have suffered trauma to the face and injuries to her kidneys. She claims a loss of $4,000.
Two other Warsaw police officers and five additional people are also named in the tort claim.
A notice of tort claim is filed with a municipality when a lawsuit is anticipated. Jonathan J. Myers of Columbia City is Wood's attorney in this matter.
Warsaw Police Chief Steve Foster said he has not received a copy of the tort claim notice and could not comment on pending litigation. A copy of the claim is on file with the city clerk-treasurer.
