A Warsaw woman was arrested today after falsely informing police that the driver of the vehicle she was allegedly a passenger in fled the scene of a serious accident.
According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, police responded to a two-vehicle collision just before 7 a.m. today at the intersection of County Farm Road and CR 400S, Warsaw. Upon arrival, officers found one vehicle overturned with driver Keisha DeWeese, 19, Warsaw, and her 3-month-old daughter, Laila Holliday, trapped inside.
DeWeese and her daughter were extricated by Warsaw Wayne Township Fire Territory and airlifted to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne to be treated for lacerations and contusions. They were listed in serious but stable condition this morning.
Officers spoke with a female subject, identified as Jennifer Miller, 36, Warsaw, who alleged she was a passenger in the second vehicle, which had struck DeWeese’s vehicle after disregarding a stop sign. Miller stated the driver of her vehicle had fled the scene.
Officers from the Warsaw and Winona Lake Police departments and officers from the Indiana State Police established a perimeter around the crash site and brought out a K-9 officer to locate the suspect; however, after further investigation it was determined Miller had falsely informed police and was the actual driver of the second vehicle.
Miller was found to be a habitual traffic violater and was arrested at the scene of the accident on charges of habitual traffic violation and false informing.
Miller was not injured.
