Woman And Children Hospitalized After Truck-Buggy Crash

An Amish family escaped serious injury today after a crash in northern Kosciusko County. Kosciusko County Sheriff's deputies responded today at 8:33 a.m. near the intersection of CRs 1350N and 300W after receiving a 911 call of a buggy and pickup truck collision. Officers and emergency personnel arrived and found an Amish buggy that had been struck severely from behind, laying in a ditch area. KCSD deputies located the initial driver, Jeffery D. Lanning, 25, Bremen, who stated that he had been traveling westbound on CR 1350N, approaching CR 300W, and was distracted. He did not see the buggy until the last minute, striking it at normal road speed.The buggy was being operated by Diane Borkholder, 29, New Paris. She and her three children, ages four, two and a newborn child, were all transported to Goshen General Hospital with minor injuries by Multi-Township EMS from Milford.
