Dave Wolkins will seek an 11th term for the District 18 House seat in the May 6 primary.

Wolkins, 64, a Republican, was first elected in 1988.

Wolkins said, in a telephone interview this morning, he is seeking re-election to continue to serve the people in his district.

"It has been a privilege to serve the people of District 18 and I have tried to represent the community's views I serve," Wolkins said.

He serves as a member of several House Committees, including Environmental Affairs, Government and Regulatory Reform, Veterans Affairs and Public Safety.

He said while serving in the District 18 seat, he has spent a lot of time dealing with environmental issues.

"Indiana is a lot cleaner than it was 20 years ago thanks to federal laws that have been passed," Wolkins said.

He said he feels ethanol takes a lot of energy to produce, and he wants to continue to study the issue and monitor the cost of rising food prices and how that will effect the economy.

Wolkins lives in Winona Lake with his wife Candace. They have a son and two grandchildren.
