WNIT Public Television has announced the launch of “Michiana’s Rising Star,” a search for the brightest and best talent in the Michiana region. WNIT will host five regional competitions during May and June. The Warsaw regional audition will be held at Warsaw Community High School. The date is expected to fall between mid-May and mid-June. The five top performers from each region will then compete at the WNIT studio each evening from July 28 through Aug. 2 to determine the grand prize winner and “Michiana’s Rising Star.” Right now, WNIT is accepting entries into the competition, which can be received until March 15. According to WNIT’s Interim Executive Director Steve Funk, “This is a tremendous opportunity for singers, musicians, actors, and other performing artists to showcase their talent. We invite performing artists from throughout our 22-county broadcast area to submit entries.” WNIT Production Vice President Angel Hernandez said it is easy to apply. Send WNIT a tape or compact disc of your act. For detailed instructions on how to enter, visit the contest website at wnit.org or call the station at 574-675-9648 extension 309. The grand prize winner will receive $1,000 cash and the opportunity to appear on WNIT programs. Other awards will be given to the top two contestants. Judging will be conducted by area arts professionals, media personnel, professional performers and local celebrities. In addition, the public will be invited to call in to vote for their favorites.
