It is no secret that women in management face obstacles to career advancement and professional recognition. To help address these and other issues, a group of 15 professional women from various organizations joined to establish a non-profit organization designed to serve professional women in northern Indiana. These women, who come from large regional corporations, start-up entrepreneurial businesses, government and non-profit foundations, have been working for several months to launch an association which serves to further the advancement and impact of women in their careers. The result is WISE (We Inspire, Support, Empower) Inc., which will be officially unveiled in September, according to a release from the organization. Founding board members came together to form WISE after serving with another national professional women’s organization and realizing it didn’t quite meet the needs of women in the region. “Our vision is to be recognized as a leading organization to support women in their professional growth,” said Tammy Allen, OrthoWorx director of marketing and WISE Inc. president. “Through WISE events and programs, we will provide educational opportunities for women to grow in their career, develop leadership skills, and build their professional network.” WISE seeks to inspire, support and empower women by offering educational opportunities for development of knowledge and leadership skills, building professional and personal connections, promoting the presence of professional women, and fostering mentoring relationships, according to the release. On Sept. 19, WISE will hold an inaugural event open to anyone interested in learning more about the organization and what it offers – including future events, workshops and a one-of-a-kind regional mentoring program. The evening will also include a featured speaker, Karen Gregerson, CFO for STAR Bank, who will be share how connecting with other women has positively impacted her professional and personal development. WISE organizers expressed recognition and thanks for founding sponsor Paragon Medical, and event sponsors The Taharaa Room at Noa Noa Wood Grill, Miles Printing, and Blue Llama Designs.
