NORTH WEBSTER - A married couple in North Webster hired to remodel a house were arrested after an altercation with the homeowners ended with a gun being fired.

Kenneth Murel Alford, 51, Oshkosh, Wis., and his wife, Colleen Tracey Alford, 45, were booked into Kosciusko County Jail early this morning after becoming involved in an altercation with the owners of a home the Alfords were hired to help remodel.Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department officers, with the assistance of the Indiana State Police, responded to a battery and shots fired call at 268 EMS W17 Lane, North Webster.

When officers arrived, Charles S. Artrip, the homeowner, said he was battered by Kenneth Alford and that Alford discharged a firearm inside the residence.

KCSD Deputy Shawn Castillo noted that when he entered the residence, he noticed what appeared to be a small bullet hole in the living room ceiling.

Colleen informed Castillo that the weapon, a PW Arms P64 model .9 mm, was inside a suitcase in the bedroom where the Alfords were staying.

The Alfords, along with Artrip's wife, said the altercation started when Artrip told the Alfords to be out of the house by the end of the week.

At that point, Artrip allegedly began to "belittle and curse" at the Alfords and his wife.

After the two men became involved in a physical altercation, Colleen Alford allegedly ran to the bedroom where they were staying to grab the gun.

Kenneth Alford said the gun was to fire a warning shot to end the altercation.

He was booked into KCJ and charged with criminal recklessness, while Colleen was booked and charged with aiding and abetting. The Alfords bonds were both set at $2,000 each.
