Winona Town Council Agrees On 45 mph Speed Limit For CR 250E

Posted

WINONA LAKE - After much discussion, the Town Council Tuesday approved a 45 mph speed limit on CR 250E.

Kosciusko County has posted 45 mph for their portion of the road. The council needed to decide to agree with this posting for Winona Lake's portion.

Town coordinator Craig Allebach said the speed limit would be 30 mph if the road is unposted.

Councilman Rolly Ortega had a slight concern with a 45 mph speed limit. He said with a wider smoother road it would be easier to drive faster through there.

"You're buzzing through there a lot quicker than what seems safe," said Ortega.

Ortega said he'd be more comfortable with a 35 mph posting.

Council president Jerry Clevenger made a motion to pass the 45 mph speed limit. No one seconded it. The council discussed it further and finally Ortega seconded the motion and it was approved.

In other business:

• Danny Hall of the Winona Lake Police Department has recently been promoted to detective. Kolin Young of Kol's Auto Sales offered to donate a vehicle to Hall.

Allebach recommended the acceptance of the donation and the council approved it with the condition that the request be submitted in writing.

• The council approved for clerk-treasurer Retha Hicks to advertise for bids for three items on the priority list town engineer Larry Long passed out at the last meeting; College Avenue construction; work on the Lakeview area and work in Southtown.

The council also gave Hicks permission to get a quote for the cost of work on Fort Wayne Street.

• The council approved the preliminary budget as the meeting was also a pre-budget hearing.

Memebers of the Winona Lake Town Council include: president Jerry Clevenger, Jeff Carroll, David Delp, Craig Snow and Rolly Ortega.
