Posted

WINONA LAKE - Planning is under way for Winona Lake's July Fourth Celebration.

Tentative plans discussed today by the Winona Lake Town Council include festival music, home tours, the annual car cruise-in, commemorative posters, T-shirts, vendors and children's activities.

The Winona Lake Plan Commission and Town Council are working on finalizing the celebration decisions and plans.

In other business:

• Street department superintendent Bart Jones reported that the department is busy patching potholes.

Council president Jerry Clevenger commended Jones on his "good work with the snow removal last weekend."

• Council member Craig Snow brought up concerns from residents on the condition of alleys because of the weather.

Jones said the stone used for the alleys is frozen. As soon as the stone is in workable condition, work will be started on the alleys.

• Clerk-treasurer Retha Hicks commented on Winona Lake's updated newsletter.

"I would like to thank Mary [Polston] on the job she did on the newsletter," Hicks said.

The newsletter concerns recycling. Polston updated the letter to include recycling of articles such as small cardboard boxes.

Members of the Winona Lake Town Council include: Jeff Carroll, David Delp, Jerry Clevenger, Craig Snow and Rolly Ortega.
