Winona Lake To Celebrate Billy Sunday Day Aug. 5

Posted

WINONA LAKE - Come to the Billy Sunday Day and Ice Cream Social for a blast from the past.

Take a free tour of the Sunday family home guided by "Ma" Sunday, or get a copy of the new Billy Sunday biography, "In Rare Form," signed by author Billy Firstenberger.

Learn more about Winona's famous resident with special one-day-only displays from around the country at the Billy Sunday Visitors Center.

Kick back and take in a vintage base ball tourney at Tabernacle Field, featuring the Village at Winona Blue Laws, Indianapolis Blues and the Warsaw Fleetfoots. A local barbershop quartet, the Chain Gang, will sing three sets during the afternoon, featuring popular music and gospel favorites of the era.

A portion of the day's proceedings will support the Boys and Girls Club of Kosciusko County. Take a historic bicycle tour of old Winona with the Wheelmen High Wheel Bicycle Club, or join in the canal canoe races, egg race and watermelon seed-spitting contest for good old-fashioned summertime fun.

New for this year will be kids activities, including face painting, summer crafts and a variety of lawn games. Sign up for the bike raffle. Enjoy the once-a-year "Billy Sundae" at Kelainey's Sweet Dreams, or decorate your own ice-cream bowl at Pottery Bayou.
