WINONA LAKE - Bids to make improvements on King's Highway and School Street came in over town engineer Larry Long's estimates when town council members reviewed the project Tuesday.
Niblock Excavating and Asphalt turned in a bid of $291,639.55 for King's Highway, while Phend and Brown's bid was $395,876.30; both were more than Long's estimate of $239.382.60. Niblock's bid was approved.
For work on School Street Niblock's bid was $83,305.71; Phend and Brown's, $148,196.76; and Long's estimate was $106,196.65. Niblock's bid was again approved.
The total base bid from Niblock was given as $374,945.26 and Phend and Brown's bid to rehabilitate the two streets was $544,073.06. Long's total estimate was $345,579.25.
Bids for work at the fire station also were reviewed, with Niblock's estimate of $17,569.20 approved. Phend and Brown's bid was $15,447.52.
For all three projects, Niblock's estimate of $392,514.46 was approved, although it is $36,619.36 more than Long's original estimate.
AmeriWaste's weekly trash pickup bids of $7.69 per resident the first year, $7.89 the second year and $8.09 the third year also were approved. The company was the only one to answer the call for quotes.
No bituminous bids were received.
The town insurance bid receipt date will be rescheduled.
Town council members in attendance were Jeff Carroll, David Delp and John Boal. Rolly Ortega and Jerry Clevenger were absent.
