WINONA LAKE – Winona Lake Post Office will continue to close 15 minutes early due to operation constraints, but Saturday hours will remain unchanged. During an interview Thursday afternoon at the post office, King said the post office received a visit from Indianapolis district office officials in May. The post office began closing the office at 4:45 p.m. on weekdays due to operation constrains in May after the visit from the state. King, who has been Winona Lake’s postmaster for the past seven years and been employed by the postal service for 28 years, is the only one in the office when the outgoing mail truck leaves at 5:05 p.m. and can’t close the service window at that time. King’s hours remained unchanged and works eight hours per day. Window hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. during the week, and remain unchanged from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays. King said he had a post master’s meeting Thursday morning in Plymouth, and post office officials informed him there are no further changes anticipated at Winona Lake’s Post Office. “Our office is not on the list to have any more hour reductions,” King said. “It will be like this for the forseeable future.” Three weeks ago Indianapolis district office officials increased Winona Lake Post Office Sales Service Associate Shelly Turek’s hours from one hour a day weekdays to three hours per day. Turek previously worked from 1 to 2 p.m. on weekdays, and now she works from 1 to 3 p.m. and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. In the middle of May, Turek’s hours were reduced to one hour per day from four hours per day when she was working from 1 to 5 p.m. She also worked five hours per day on Saturdays and now works four hours on Saturdays.
