Winona Lake Gets Grant for Utility Vehicle

Posted
WINONA LAKE – Winona Lake Police Department recently received grants from Kosciusko County Community Foundation and the K21 Health Foundation to purchase a utility vehicle.

The vehicle will be used for patrol and emergency transportation to and from the Winona Lake Bike Trails, Optimist Club Triathlon and cross-country course for 5K races in the south woods of Winona Lake Park.

Already, the vehicle has enhanced the safety and well-being of Winona Lake, having been used in two emergency situations, according to Town Marshal Paul Schmitt.

Most recently, the vehicle allowed Schmitt to quickly respond to an elderly Dementia patient who was found stranded on the Winona Lake Bike Trails.

The vehicle reduces emergency response time and allows responders to access rugged or narrow terrain that is inaccessible by standard vehicles.

Schmitt, said, “We are really tickled to have received this generous gift. It will most assuredly benefit Winona Lake residents and visitors for years to come.”

The Kosciusko County Community Foundation is a public charity, and gifts made to the Foundation are tax-deductible. For information about the Community Foundation, visit www.kcfoundation.org, call 574-267-1901, or visit 102 E. Market St., Warsaw.
