WINONA LAKE - Bids for garbage and recycling services for Winona Lake were rejected during a special meeting Tuesday morning.
The town received two bids from Stafford Solid Waste, Warsaw, for $13.95 per unit per month, and Allied Waste Service, Claypool, $11.89 per unit per month.
Town Coordinator Craig Allebach said the bids were 45 percent higher than the service price currently offered.
He said the town will re-advertise and seek additional bids, and the two companies who bid have the option of presenting another bid.
He said the town could consider offering recycling services every other week instead of every week to save money.
The town council will meet again at Tuesday at 7 a.m. at the Winona Lake Town Hall.
Town Council members are Jeff Carroll, Dave Delp, Joy Lohse, Rolly Ortega and Jerry Clevenger.
