WINONA LAKE – Winona Lake Town Council approved Park Director Holly Hummitch’s request Tuesday to apply for the planning portion of the Community Parks Initiative Grant.
Council President Ashley McGinnis said the town became aware they became eligible to apply for the grant through the Lilly Foundation.
Hummitch said Winona Lake was one of 126 cities and towns to be selected to apply. She requested permission to apply for the grant.
After the meeting, Town Manager Adam Lohn said Michiana Area Council of Governments created a new five-year master parks and trails plan for the town. The town has a few ideas of projects they want to address. Once they show the Lilly Foundation they have a strong plan of where they can use the money, the town can go ahead and apply for the actual grant.
