Posted
WINONA LAKE – Winona Lake Town Council approved hiring a utility and payroll clerk during its meeting Tuesday night.
The council named Jennifer Harting to serve in the position. Harting replaces Kim Kotzenmoyer, who resigned.
Kent Adams, clerk-treasurer, said Harting started training for the position two weeks ago and is in her third week.
Town officials interviewed eight candidates.
Councilman Bruce Shaffner made the motion to hire Harting, seconded by councilman Philip Hood.
The council also approved a waiver of a $51.60 utility penalty charge. The account has been paid and is current.
Adams informed the council the 2012 annual fund report will be completed and publicly advertised no later than Feb. 28.
The council approved a custodial services contract. Dan Serna was the lowest bidder and will provide custodial services for the town hall at $40 per week, senior center at $40 per week and restrooms at $25 per night.
Town Engineer Larry Long said the System Control and Data Acquisition system that transmits data to the street department was installed Jan. 10.
Long said reconstruction of the Stonehenge Streets will start back up in the spring when asphalt plants re-open.
The council approved Jill Serbousek to serve on the Winona Lake Plan Commission.
Peter Cristos will serve on the Winona Lake Board of Zoning Appeals.
Town Attorney Jim Walmer said he has been working on legal suits for unpaid trash fees.
Walmer said he was notified that a person with an unpaid trash fee had a child born with a heart problem and they are in Cincinnati at a hospital.
The council will wait to make a decision on the trash fees once the family returns.
Town Marshal Paul Schmitt said he and Winona Lake officer Mike Foster went to training for a Computer Aided Dispatch System.
The system gives officers the ability to record information on computers and make notes about the calls they’re on.
Mitch Titus, Winona Lake fire chief, said the department took the town’s new firetruck to Fort Wayne  to fix an oil leak. The department will need to put new tires on its tanker at a  cost of $4,500.
