Winona Art Auction Benefits United Way

Posted

Local artists will donate original pieces of art for a charity auction Friday for United Way.

The event, "The Art of Caring," will be on the Village at Winona canal walk from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

In deciding on this event, Brent Wilcoxson, Winona Restoration Partners manager, talked about why this charity auction is a good thing for the artists and the Village.

"The Village art auction for United Way is a wonderful way to be a part of something bigger - a way to really make a difference," he said.

A live auction, a silent auction and a raffle will be held at the Village at Winona's gazebo. Guests will be treated to light hors d'oeuvres, entertainment by cellists Dan Zambrano and Robert A. Hudson, and classical music by Jorge Penaherrera.

The Flying Fish will offer sushi and other dishes for auction patrons. The Village's canal street will be lamp-lit to create an enjoyable walk during the evening as guests visit the shops and galleries.

Each shop or gallery will have special incentives for patrons, which will assist the Village at Winona in raising dollars for United Way. During the evening, 10 percent of shop and gallery sales will go to the United Way.

Schrader's Auction Company's Rex Schrader, will be donate his time and facilitate the auction.

Each Village at Winona participant donated a piece of art; either an original, an original collaborative work with another artist, or a unique piece from their shop or gallery.

Artists have come together to create one-of-a-kind pieces that only can be found at this event.

Local original artists are: Robert A. Hudson, Jennifer Ortega, John Eric Hawkins, Terry Armstrong, Mike Kelly, Merna Eisenbraun, Nicole Moore, Mary Pat Wallen, Steve Johnson, Candice Cooper, Duane D. Darland, James Michael Kahle, and David Marshall.

"We just want our art to make a difference in someone's life," Hudson said. "That's why we felt this was a great thing to do."

Original items to be auctioned include pottery, jewelry, gift certificate for a portrait, collaborative piece of water- colored lilies, blown glass vessel, epoxy and patina sculpture, collaborative painting in acrylic and oil, water-color painted silk jacket collaborative, pastel picture, black and white photo and an original watercolor.

In addition, there will be 10 silent auction pieces and 11 raffle pieces.

Proceeds from the "Art of Caring" event will help support 56 local programs funded by the Kosciusko County United Way.

United Way has set the overall community goal for $1.575 million this year.
