Winona Approves WCHS Request To Hold Prom At Rodeheaver

Posted

WINONA LAKE - Prom for Warsaw Community High School juniors, seniors and guests will be held in Rodeheaver Auditorium May 20.

Junior class president and prom committee member, Ryan Dill, was granted permission from the Winona Lake Town Council Tuesday to hold prom at Rodeheaver this year.

Council members also granted a waiver for curfew on that night and the Blue Lion Coffee House and Sweet Dreams Ice Cream and Chocolates hope to open booths for prom-goers.

Park benches and trash containers for the area were also requested as well as possible police enforcement for parking.

Town Marshal Malcolm Gilbert said he didn't think parking would be a problem. Gilbert also said curfew does not apply to school functions.

Council President Jerry Clevenger said the park bench request didn't need approval and directed Dill to contact Jim LeMasters for further discussion on the issue.

In other business:

• Council members would like Winona Lake residents to bag or box their yard clippings and leaves for pick-up this year. The clippings and leaves will not be picked up unless they are properly contained.

• The Mountain Bike Trail Club requested a truck and driver to work on trails on the old Boys Club property.

The club has received donations from area businesses and is working on grants for the project.

Phend and Brown donated stone for the trails. The truck and driver are needed on April 27 to haul and dump stone in the area.

Street Superintendent Bart Jones said part of the trail is on town property and could be on other people's property as well.

Eric Graves, from the Mountain Bike Trail Club, said they will look into exactly where property lines are located.

Council members granted the club's request for a truck and driver.

• Jones reported that the property at 201 14th St. has two sewer lines and only one of them is hooked up.

Council members approved the town to hook up and fund the second sewer line.

• A property owner in Country Garden Estates will donate one or two lots to the town to implement a cul-de-sac on Peach Tree Lane.

A proposal for this will be brought to the town at the next meeting.

• The Winona Lake Fire Department requested that the town handle funds from a grant they received for a tanker.

If the fire department handles the money, it will take an additional six weeks for the paperwork to go through, Clerk-Treasurer Retha Hicks said. "That's the issue," Hicks said.

The fire department will receive the money quicker if the town handles it Hicks said. "The money will come to us and pass through."

The fire department's request that the town handle the grant money was granted.

Members of the Winona Lake Town Council include: Jeff Carroll, David Delp, Jerry Clevenger, Craig Snow and Rolly Ortega.
