Posted
WINONA LAKE – Kosciusko Lakes and Streams announced the winners of the 2012 Wonderful Water Student Art Contest this week. KLAS challenged local fourth through 12th grade students to create a one-dimensional piece of art depicting the contest theme of “Our Lakes and Rivers are Treasures.”

Artwork was judged on creativity, artistic merit, compatibility of any wildlife with its habitat and depiction of the theme by members of the Grace College Art Department, including Professor Kim Reiff and art students Noelle Fink, Anna Winter and Natalie Huebner.

The contest included four categories: 4-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 grades with first ($50), second ($30) and third ($20) place cash prizes given in each category.

With more than 200 entries representing 10 schools, the competition was fierce.

A special award presentation for the winners will take place June 9 at the Northern Indiana Lakes Festival. For more information on the Lakes Festival, go to www.lakesfestival.org

Community members have several opportunities to view the winning selections.  From Monday to May 11, winning artwork will be displayed at Mt. Memorial Hall on the Grace College campus.
