Wiggins Names Valentine As New City Attorney

The city of Warsaw will start out 1998 with a new city attorney.

Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins announced Friday that beginning Jan. 1, the new city attorney will be Mike Valentine.

Valentine will replace Syracuse attorney Steve Snyder, who has served as Warsaw's legal counsel for approximately eight years.

"Steve has done a good job for the last eight years, but I'm going with a more local presence as an attorney whom I've worked with in the past," Wiggins said.

Snyder will work with Valentine during a transitional period, Wiggins said.

Valentine was the city's attorney before Snyder, and was replaced when former mayor Jeff Plank appointed Snyder to the position.

The city attorney serves at the request of the mayor, and is an appointed position. The mayor of Warsaw has sole authority to appoint the city attorney.

Wiggins said no other appointed positions in the city will change "at this time," and that the city council and department heads were notified of Valentine's appointment.
