Whitko’s Boys Tennis Season Ends At SectionalWhitko’s boys tennis season ended Wednesday with a very close 3-2 loss to Columbia City in the opening round of the Warsaw Sectional.
The Wildcats’ No. 1 doubles team of Jackson Hollenbaugh and Devon Akers will move on to the individual state tournament after their 6-3, 6-4 win over the Eagles’ Evan Cearbaugh and Tanveer Singh.
Whitko’s other win came at No. 3 singles, where Bryce Tucker dropped the first set before coming back to win 6-7 (4-7) 7-5, 6-4 over Columbia City’s Noah Finerock.
The No. 1 singles match decided who would advance to face Wawasee in the semifinals today, with Kendall Smith of Columbia City taking a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 decision over the Wildcats’ David Ousley.
At No. 2 singles, Eli Jones of Columbia City won 6-2, 6-0 over Whitko’s Aiden Hoffman. The Eagles’ No. 2 doubles duo of Joshua Miner and Toby Krider rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Whitko’s Kaige Michael and Jonathan Strayer.
In the second semifinal, host Warsaw will take on Tippecanoe Valley. Both semifinal matches begin at 4:30 p.m. today at the courts on the west side of the Warsaw Community High School campus.
The championship match is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday.
