Wheels On Fire Cancer Crusaders Smash Out Cancer Event Aug. 16

Posted

Those fighting cancer will never fight alone is a mission of Beaver Dam Community Church, the group that has been raising funds to help those with cancer in Kosciusko and Fulton counties for over 20 years.
The Wheels On Fire Cancer Crusaders Smash Out Cancer event on Aug. 16 is the major fundraiser of the year.
Held at the Akron Community Center, 815 E. Rural St., Akron, patrons of the event will be treated to delicious food, entertainment, live and silent auction and a lighted memorial service, according to a provided news release. The pie auction will follow the live auction at approximately 7:45 p.m.
Starting at 4 p.m., walking tacos, hamburgers, cheeseburgers and pulled pork will be available to curb appetites. Chips and drinks to round out meals and Igloo ice cream to satisfy dessert cravings will also be plentiful.
New to this year’s event is the silent auction. Wheels on Fire has been gifted some great donated items, and they will be split into silent auction and live auction items, the release states.
Kylen Crabb will be at the microphone, kicking off the event with the national anthem. The dancers from Deb Collier’s School of Dance will take the stage first, following the national anthem. Singing some favorite following the dancers will be the choir of Beaver Dam Community Church. Special guest Mark Vice will also be at the microphone, following Ed Rock. Kylene Crabb rounds out the night to close out the entertainment portion of the evening.
Over 25 donated items for bid hit the auction block at 6:30 p.m. Donated items this year include a fire ring, helicopter ride, custom-made coffee table, welder and more. The silent auction will have lots of items as well, beginning at 4 p.m. and ending at 6:30 p.m.
The live pie auction begins after the donated items are finished. Approximately 50 pies and cakes, flavors of all kinds, will have bidders battling it out for the pie of their choice.
Ending the night is the Light Up Your Life Memorial Service. Those battling cancer and those who have been lost to the disease are honored and remembered in a ceremony where names are read and candles are illuminated in their honor. Memorials may be purchased for $10 at the event.
