NORTH WEBSTER – Indiana conservation officers are investigating a vehicle accident Friday afternoon that left a vehicle in Backwater Lake near North Webster. According to an Indiana Department of Natural Resources press release, at approximately 2:40 p.m. Friday, the Kosciusko County Central Dispatch received a call of a vehicle in the lake. Storms rolled through Kosciusko County Friday afternoon around the time of the accident. Witnesses reported the vehicle, operated by 58-year-old Mary Neibert, North Webster, left Backwater Road, drove into the public access boat ramp parking lot and circled around into the lake. Neibert was able to roll down the window, crawl out and swim to shore. Strong winds, rain and hail made for low visibility during the time of the accident, according to the press release. A diver with the conservation officers hooked the vehicle, which was pulled out by Stuckman’s Wrecker Service. Conservation officers were assisted on scene by North Webster fire, EMS and police departments, as well as the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
