Warsaw Community High School student Ana Hamrick received an award for her rendering of Old National Bank in Warsaw. She received a first-place blue ribbon award May 14 from Tri Kappa in the black and white drawing category during an art contest at the Warsaw Performing Arts Center at WCHS. Hamrick, 17, will be a senior in the fall at WCHS. Her parents are David and Jan Hamrick. During an interview Tuesday at the bank, Ana said this past winter she took a photo of the bank and said it was a well-lit structure and said it was interesting and used it for her rendering. The rendering was for a project for her Honors Drawing 3 art class. Her assignment was to draw anything in a three-point perspective. “It had interesting angles, dimensions and shapes and architecture that was detailed,” Ana said. “There were a lot of lines and it took a while to get everything just right.” She began the rendering for her art class at WCHS in March and finished it in April. She said it was a methodical process drawing the rendering. “I used a ruler to draw the lines, and had a photo reference, but everything took time,” Ana said. After completing the rendering she contacted John Warren, Old National Bank market president, to show him the rendering. Her father suggested she contact Warren to show him the rendering and she did so. “I knew she had put a lot of time into creating this and I thought it would be neat for her to show it to him,” David said. “Her mother and I are proud of her. This is one of the ways she expresses her art.” Warren purchased the rendering that has been on display in the bank’s lobby since June 12, and will continue to be on display until the end of July. “She did a wonderful job in capturing the architectural effects we tried to achieve in the design of the building that was built seven years ago this coming November,” Warren said. “When we started working with the architects we wanted to build a building of distinction in downtown Warsaw and I think Ana has done an excellent job of capturing those architectural features.” Warren said it is nice to see a young aspiring artist capturing the building the way she did. Ana said in college she hopes to major in art or graphic design. She said she enjoys focusing on the visual arts including areas such as photography, watercolor, graphic design and three-point perspective art.
