Warsaw Community Development Corp. board members discussed Saturday's Downtown Days during Tuesday's meeting.
Events Coordinator Stephanie Sayler informed board members she met with Alan Alderfer Monday, who is in charge of the bicycle race, to discuss final details about the event. The event begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and features a 5-K foot race and bicycle race, and a food and beer tent from 7 to 10 p.m. on Buffalo Street. Blues Band "Summer Time Blues" will perform at 7 p.m.
Sayler also gave an update on the Warsaw Farmers Market to board members.
She said she has had problems with there not being enough vendors during this year's farmers market in Warsaw. She said customers have called from Columbia City and Wabash inquiring about items that will be sold at the market.
Sayler said once Downtown Days is over, she plans to meet with the WCDC events committee to get more vendors for the farmers market.
WCDC President Clint Pletcher informed board members he presented a budget proposal for 2008 during Monday's Warsaw City Council meeting. He said the organization is requesting $20,000 from the city for 2008 to help cover a decrease in membership fees. The organization requested $12,600 from the city in 2007.
Pletcher also said he and Bruce Woodward, Woodward Realty, conducted an inspection of the Comstock House and found there was a broiler unit that needed to be replaced. He said he has received a proposal from New Plumbing and Heating, and the organization will need to receive a second proposal.
"I would like the broiler to be fixed now, rather than this winter," Pletcher said.
WCDC will discuss proposals to replace the broiler at its September meeting.
Kevin Zachary, Warsaw Biblical Gardens coordinator, informed board members he has spoken with a woman who lives in Indianapolis and owned a biblical garden. She is interested in donating rocks engraved with biblical verses to Warsaw's Biblical Gardens.
