WCDC Discusses Sale Of Comstock House

Posted
Warsaw Community Development Corp. board members discussed selling the Comstock House and events in Warsaw during its meeting Tuesday.

WCDC President Clint Pletcher said he spoke with Lewis Jones, executive director of Combined Community Services, who requested a formal letter offering the Comstock House for sale.

Pletcher said he has the letter and will give it to Jones.

Pletcher said Jones expressed interest in CCS purchasing the Comstock House.

Pletcher also discussed WCDC's budget for 2008 and said WCDC has requested an increase from last year's $12,600 funding to $20,000 for 2008.

The increase is attributed to maintenance on the Comstock House. The house had a broken broiler that was noticed during an inspection and will need to be replaced.

Mayor Ernie Wiggins said city budgets were approved during Monday's Warsaw City Council meeting. The council is awaiting levy rates from the department of local government finance for non-profit agencies.

Kevin Zachary, Biblical Gardens coordinator, said there has been an increase in tours at the garden this year with more than 700 tours. Zachary said there were 190 tours last year.

He said there will be trees planted on the east end of Biblical Gardens in Central Park along Ind. 15.

Zachary said he and Park Superintendent Jon Garber picked up ornaments from an owner of a Biblical Garden in Indianapolis that will be put in Warsaw's Biblical Garden.

WCDC Events Coordinator Stephanie Salyer informed board members WCDC's annual Halloween event "Spooktacular" will be held Oct. 26 in downtown Warsaw.

Salyer said she will speak with the Breakfast Optimist Club about assistance with the event.

The event last year featured costume contests and trick-or -treating in downtown.

Salyer also said the Downtown Days went well. Twenty-seven runners participated in the foot race and bicyclists from Ohio and Michigan participated in the bicycle race.

Salyer said the planning committee will meet next week to begin planning for next year's Downtown Days.

Mary Ellen Rudisel Jordan, Scearce Rudisel Architects, informed the corporation that she finalized drawings for a balcony for Celebrations.

"The balcony will be a nice asset to residents who live in the apartments above Celebrations to walk out onto in case there is a fire," Rudisel Jordan said.

The corporation will meet again Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. at the WCDC office.
