Wawasee Wrestlers Place 1st, Warsaw 3rd At Plymouth Sectional

PLYMOUTH – The Wawasee wrestling team dominated the competition to win Saturday’s Plymouth Sectional.

The Warriors racked up 263 points, which was 25.5 points more than Culver Academies, which finished second. 

The Warriors advanced 13 of 14 wrestlers to the Penn Regional. 

Warsaw advanced eight of 12 wrestlers to the regional as it placed third with a team total of 171.5 points.

Drake Montelongo, of the 113-pound class, Geremia Brooks (132), Braxton Alexander (138), Garrett Stuckman (145), Alex Castro (182), Damien Rodriguez (195) and Isaiah Tipping (220) were champions for the Warriors. 

Wawasee’s Dylan Tom (106) and Jace Alexander (120) placed second, while Isiah Faurote (152), Logan Baugh (160) and Hagaen Slusher (285) took third and Fernando Hernandez (170) finished fourth. 

Warsaw’s Jose Grimmett (152) won his weight class with a 3-0 record on the day. 

Jose Martinez (113), Jacob Bass (145) and Brandon Estepp (160) all tallied second-place finishes for the Tigers.

Andrew Ross (120) placed third, while Isaiah Owens (126), Brock Hogenson (132) and Brock Hueber (195) all finished fourth for Warsaw. 



Squires Take 2nd 

At Peru Sectional

PERU – Manchester freshman Dylan Stroud became a sectional champion as the Squires placed second at Saturday’s Peru Sectional.

Manchester had a team score of 181 points.

Stroud (126 pounds) placed first, while the Squires had eight other regional qualifiers.

Kevin Morales (145) and Delton Moore (170) finished second, while Elijah Burlingame (120), Trescott Duffy (182), Ashton Moore (195), Joseph Irons (220) and Bryce Kamphues (285) placed third for Manchester. 

Andrew Cagle (160) finished fourth for the Squires. 



Warsaw Places Third 

At NLC Championships

MIDDLEBURY – The Warsaw boys swimming and diving team took third place at Saturday’s Northern Lakes Conference Championships at Northridge.

Warsaw’s Grant Knight won the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.07 seconds, and was All-NLC along with teammate Alex Cook. 

Zach LaLonde and Nick Bazzoni were tagged with All-NLC honorable mentions.

Cook finished second in the 50 freestyle in 22.12 seconds, and was part of Warsaw’s second-place 200 freestyle relay team along with Bazzoni, Knight and Michael Ray, which finished in 1:29.40. 

LaLonde, Knight, Cook and Nathan Taylor placed third in the 200 medley relay (1:40.37), while Knight was third in the 200 IM (2:00.05) and LaLonde placed third in the 100 backstroke (57.52 seconds). 

Concord was first with a team score of 392, while Wawasee placed fourth with 317 points.

Jared Krugman was All-NLC for the Warriors, while Daegan Kingrey earned an honorable mention. 

Krugman was second in both the 200 freestyle (1:47.39) and 500 freestyle (4:54.24), and was teamed up with Jacob Krugman, Bryce Knepp and Kingrey to place third in 3:29.44 in the 400 freestyle relay. 



Wawasee 

Trounces Lakeland

LAGRANGE – Aaron Evans scored 19 points to lead the Wawasee boys basketball team to a 56-37 win Saturday at Lakeland. 

Austin Miller added 14 points for the Warriors, while Bennett Hoffert had nine. 

Wawasee led 12-10 after the first quarter before limiting Lakeland to five in the second for the 10-point lead. 

They continued to excel in the second half for the blowout victory. 

Wawasee will host Northridge Thursday.

Vikings Vanquish Couriers

AKRON – Parkur Dalrymple scored 27 points to lead the Tippecanoe Valley boys basketball team to a 73-62 home win Saturday over Clinton Christian. 

Valley led 16-15 after the first quarter, 35-27 after the second, and 54-40 after the third.

The Vikings held the double-digit lead in the fourth for the win. 

Jalen Shepherd scored 18 points for Valley (8-8), while Tanner Trippiedi had nine. 

Valley will host Three Rivers Conference foe Wabash Thursday.

Trojans Fall To Bluejays

BOURBON – Tye Orsund scored 14 points, but the Triton boys basketball team lost 67-53 Saturday in a Hoosier North Athletic Conference game at North Judson.

Triton led 15-14 after the first quarter and 26-24 at halftime.

The score was tied at 40 after three quarters, but North Judson scored 27 points in the fourth quarter for the double-digit victory. 

Beau Hepler scored 10 points for Triton (5-8, 2-2 HNAC). 

The Trojans will play Thursday at Argos.

FORT WAYNE – Weston Hamby scored 17 points, but the Manchester boys basketball team lost 46-38 Saturday at 3A Fort Wayne Concordia.

Manchester was narrowly outscored in each quarter. 

Kam Lester scored nine points for the Squires (8-6), while Brayden Casper pulled down eight rebounds. 

Manchester will host Northfield Thursday.

BUNKER HILL – The Whitko girls basketball team fell 48-41 Saturday at Three Rivers Conference rival Maconaquah. 

Whitko was down 12-10 after the first quarter before taking an 18-16 lead into halftime. 

Maconaquah outscored Whitko 18-8 in the third quarter to take a lead into the fourth, and Whitko didn’t recover. 

Ellie Snep scored 18 points and pulled down 14 rebounds, while Sarah Hewitt scored nine points.

Whitko will play Friday at 6 p.m. against the winner of Central Noble and Westview in the Central Noble Sectional.

GOSHEN – Jessi Calizo and Anna Reimink each scored 10 points to lead the Lakeland Christian girls basketball team to a 49-32 win Saturday at Clinton Christian. 

Tori Calizo scored nine points, while Carly O’Hara added six points for the Lady Cougars. 

LCA jumped out to a 14-8 lead to end the first quarter before breaking the game open with a 30-12 lead at the break. 

The Lady Cougars (13-9) cruised to victory in the second half. They will play Tuesday against host Fremont at 7 p.m. in a sectional opener.
