Wawasee Senior Injured In CrashSYRACUSE - A single vehicle crash on CR 500E, just south of CR 1000N, Monday at 11:15 a.m. resulted in severe injuries to Allison Angel, 17, Syracuse.

Emergency responders found Angel trapped in her vehicle, which had struck a utility pole on the driver's side. Syracuse firemen extricated Angel, who suffered head injuries and was going in and out of consciousness.

Angel, a senior at Wawasee High School, was airlifted to Lutheran Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne in critical condition. Hospital officials said she remained in critical condition late this morning.

Kosciusko County crash investigation team members stated Angel had been northbound on CR 500E and had just crested a hill when she swerved as a southbound vehicle went past her. Angel apparently overcorrected and then slid off the west side of the road, striking the pole.

Angel was wearing a seatbelt and the crash remains under investigation. Slick roads were a factor in the crash, police said.

Assisting the Kosciusko County crash investigation team at the scene were the Syracuse/Turkey Creek EMS and Fire Department, Syracuse Police Department and the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.
