Wawasee Receives $80k Grant for Marine Mechanics Program

SYRACUSE – Wawasee School Corp. received a grant to help start its marine mechanics program, the school board heard Tuesday.
The board accepted an $80,000 grant from Dekko Foundation toward the class in nautical repair and maintenance. The program is part of career technical education offerings and is scheduled to begin in fall 2013.
The board also accepted a $6,260 grant from Lippert Components of Goshen to help some students be able to attend a middle school trip to Washington, D.C. The trip will be over fall break, Oct. 25-28.
And board members heard an update on implementation of a $113,000 Dekko grant for kindergarten programs received in August. Kindergarten teachers are making collaborative changes to better meet the individual needs of their students.
The board later made preparations for additional work on the roof of Milford Middle School, as well as renovations to Wawasee Middle School and the high school.
The board adopted an additional appropriation resolution and a bond resolution to fund the work, which totals less than $1 million, and granted permission to bid out renovations.
