Warsaw Board of Zoning Appeals Monday approved a variance to increase the square footage of a sign at a Warsaw insurance business.
Jerry Clevenger, Clevenger Insurance Agency, requested a variance from development standards to increase the square footage of his business's sign.
The board approved a 15-square-foot sign at 525 E. Center St. The new sign will be three square feet larger than the 12-square-foot sign currently on the site.
The name of the business has changed, and Clevenger wants to change to a bigger sign with the new name.
Clevenger said the name of the business changed June 1 from Source One Insurance to Clevenger Insurance Agency.
Clevenger also requested the new sign be illuminated, but City Planner Jeremy Skinner said it is not in the city's sign ordinance to allow illuminated signs on Center Street.
Board President Bruce Woodward said gas station signs that are illuminated along Center Street were grandfathered in.
The board will meet again Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. at city hall.
