A Warsaw woman suffered a partially-severed leg after broadsiding a pickup on her motorcycle midday Tuesday on the city’s west side.
Warsaw police and medics were called just before 11 a.m. to the intersection of Jefferson and McKinley streets, where crews arrived to find a motorcycle downed near a pickup and a woman lying in a lawn just off the intersection, bleeding badly from her leg.
The woman -- 52-year-old Roberta L. Snoke of 3947 N. C.R. 100E, Warsaw -- suffered a partially severed leg and was bleeding “profusely,” according to police at the scene. She was transferred by Multi-Township E.M.S. to the Kosciusko County fairgrounds, where she was loaded onto a medical helicopter and flown to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne in serious condition.
Snoke’s condition was unavailable as of press time.
Investigators believe Snoke’s 2002 Harley Davidson was eastbound on Jefferson Street when she slammed into the side of a northbound 2008 Chevy pickup truck driven by Kenneth J. Penn, 44, of Elwood, that had proceeded through the intersection.
Penn told police he had stopped at the stop sign at the intersection, but did not see Snoke’s Harley when he pulled out.
Snoke was ejected from the motorcycle due to the impact, and found in an adjacent lawn.
The speed limit along Jefferson is 30 mph.
The Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team said the investigation remains active.
