Warsaw Woman Killed In Saturday CollisionMENTONE – A Warsaw woman was killed and three other people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday night.

Hope Steyn, 21, of Warsaw, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office from her injuries suffered in the collision, according to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department news release.

The collision occurred at the intersection of CRs 1000W and 900S near Mentone.





The release said county deputies and emergency personnel responded at 7:34 p.m. Saturday to the crash. A westbound 2006 Ford Fusion had entered the path of a southbound 2003 Chevy Tahoe. The release said evidence at the scene indicates that the westbound Ford failed to yield the right of way to the southbound Chevy.

The Fusion sustained extensive passenger-side damage from the collision. The driver of the Fusion was Tertius Steyn, 22, Warsaw, who suffered facial injuries and was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne for treatment.

Hope Steyn was the front-seat passenger in the Fusion.

The Tahoe sustained extensive front-end damage from the collision. Its driver was identified as Kalista Dobbins, 19, Akron. Dobbins suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment.

A male passenger was not injured in the crash, and an infant was medically cleared at Kosciusko Community Hospital, the release said.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Kosciusko County Fatal Team was assisted at the scene by members of the Burket Fire Department, Mentone Fire Department, Parkview EMS, Mentone EMS, Samaritan Air Ambulance, Claypool Police Department, Indiana State Police, Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office and the KCSD.
