Warsaw Whoops Wabash On Strength Of Big Run

WABASH – The Warsaw girls basketball team overcame an early deficit Wednesday for a 57-19 victory against Wabash.

The Lady Tigers (2-2) were down 6-0 before going on a 35-2 run to close out the first half. 

From there, they cruised to victory while allowing just 11 second-half points.

Maddie Ryman led Warsaw with 11 points and six assists.

Kacilyn Krebs added eight points and five rebounds, while Halle Shipp also scored eight points and Abby Sanner pulled down six rebounds.

Warsaw’s Kensie Ryman scored five points.

Mariah Wyatt led Wabash (1-3) with seven points. 

Warsaw won 39-10 in the JV game. 

Warsaw will play in Saturday’s NLC/Duneland Shootout at Northridge. The Lady?Tigers will face Crown Point at 12:30 p.m. and Merrillville at 4 p.m.

Whitko Pinned By Peru

SOUTH WHITLEY – The Whitko wrestling team lost 57-22 Wednesday in a home match against Peru. 

The Wildcats had four winners in the match. Kyle Reed won 13-4 by major decision in the 126-pound match, while Robert Werstler (138) pounds), Brady Mitchell (170 pounds) and Michael Conner (182 pounds) all pinned their respective opponents.

Whitko (0-1) will wrestle Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Tippecanoe Valley. 



Valley’s Fall?Award Winners Announced

AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley doled awards for the 2018 fall season.

Cheney Canada was the girls golf Medalist and Booster Club awards winner, while Sarah Kelley won Most Improved. 

In tennis, Payton Mills was the No. 1 singles, Best Record, Captain and Booster Club awards winner, while Ethan Yates was named Most Improved and Connor Frentzel won the Mental Attitude award.

In cross country, Haley Hoover, Lauren Sponseller, Lorena Santiago, Evan Lowman Justin Peconga and Elijah Holder were tabbed with the Captain awards, while Hoover and Holder also earned Booster?Club honors. 

Valeria Jimenez and Matthew Howes were named MVPs, while Ava Craig and Jace Holloway were named Most Improved. 

Marissa McLean and Chase Miller were Mental Attitude award winners.

Sophie Bussard was tabbed with Captain, Most Kills, Most Digs, Kill?Efficiency and Highest Passing Percentage in volleyball. 

Shayleigh Shriver won Most Aces and Captain, while Amy?Baca won Booster Club, Hannah Jansma won Captain, Sarah Myers was named Most Improved and Kennedie Brooks earned Highest Serving Percentage.

Hannah Engstrand won Most?Assists, while Makenzie Woodcox won Most?Blocks and Rachael Randall won Mental Attitude.
