Warsaw Traffic Panel Suggests Banning Parking Along HickoryWarsaw Traffic Commission recommended on Wednesday to formally ban parking along Hickory Street for a half block north of Market Street.
The ban involves the east side of Hickory from Market north to the first east-west alley.
The traffic commission recommendation will be considered by the Warsaw City Council for final approval.
The move came after a pickup truck parked too close to the tracks was struck by a train recently, causing traffic problems for more than two hours.
That stretch of road had been a no-parking zone, but it was never formally recorded as an ordinance.
Part of the section previously included yellow paint on the curb indicating no parking. Yellow paint will be extended along the entire curb if approved by the city council.
The city has been working on the issue with Norfolk Southern railroad, which has railroad tracks that run parallel along the street.
