Warsaw Traffic Safety Commission Thursday approved submitting a request to the Warsaw City Council for a four-way stop at CRs 175E and 75N in Warsaw.
The intersection is east of Patterson Road.
The commission previously discussed the request for the four-way stop, submitted by the Kosciusko County Highway Department, at its Oct. 4 meeting."There are currently sight distance issues and road alignment problems at the intersection," said Warsaw Police Dept. Lt. Kip Shuter.
The board approved at its Oct. 4 meeting for Michiana Area Council of Governments to conduct a traffic count for the intersection to determine traffic volume.
The Michiana Council conducts traffic counts for cities and towns in Indiana.
The organization conducted the traffic counts at the intersection Oct. 29 through Nov. 4 from noon to 11 p.m. each day. Shuter said the study found a four-way stop is warranted at the intersection due to heavy traffic volume.
Shuter said he will draft an ordinance that will be presented to the city council for the proposed four-way stop.
The commission also discussed traffic counts they would like the Michiana Council to conduct this year.
Shuter said he would like to see traffic counts on streets around Warsaw Community High School. He said he would like traffic counts on Logan Street, Rozella Road and Fisher Avenue.
"There is a lot of traffic in the morning and afternoon around the school, and I think traffic counts need to be done," Shuter said.
He said he will create a list of 20 areas with the commission's input to submit to the Michiana Council for traffic counts.
Commissioner Bill Rhoades said he would like to see traffic counts done on Anchorage Road.
The commission will meet again March 6 at 1 p.m. at the Warsaw Police Department.
Commissioners are Rhoades, Lacy Francis, Ann Sweet, Greg Schroeder, Dan Robinson, Jeremy Skinner, Joe Thallemer and George Clemens.
