Warsaw To Begin Curbside Recycling Next Month

Posted

Warsaw residents will have a curbside recycling service beginning in April.

A public information meeting about the program is scheduled for Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in city hall.

About 4,000 homeowners are eligible for the program. Collection will begin April 14, the same day as trash collection, and every other week, the second and fourth full weeks of each month.

Wheeled containers will be delivered by city workers the week of April 7. Along with the light blue 42-gallon "bins" will be an information packet about what and what not to recycle, a calendar highlighting collection weeks and who to contact for more information.

All recyclable materials (see list) can be placed in the containers without sorting. The materials will be separated at a materials recycling facility.

Ameri-Waste, a trash hauling company out of Elkhart, was awarded the recycling contract by the Warsaw Board of Works March 7. The 21-month contract comes at a cost of $155,820, or $7,420 per month.

Eligible residents also will see a message about the recycling program on their April sewage collection invoice.

Recyclable materials include:

Paper: magazines, newspaper, "slick" advertisements, junk mail, window envelopes with the plastic removed, small cardboard boxes, cereal boxes, office paper, catalogs, telephone books, grocery bags, large cardboard boxes.
