Warsaw Tigers Pick Up Big-Time Victory Over Plymouth

The Warsaw wrestling team picked up a Northern Lakes Conference victory over rival Plymouth Thursday in a home match.

The Tigers (7-5, 2-1 NLC) picked up a match-clinching victory when Brock Hueber moved up to 195 pounds and pulled out an 11-9 decision. 

The win gave the Tigers a 38-20 lead, so their forfeit at 220 pounds and loss  at 285 pounds were inconsequential. 

Other winners for Warsaw included Andrew Ross, who won a 6-2 decision at 120 pounds, and Brock Hogenson (132), who won by fall. 

Jacob Bass won a double overtime match at 145 pounds, while Jose Grimmett (152) and Brandon Estepp (160) won by fall.

Another 11-9 decision was won by Warsaw, this one by Jayton Brock at 170 pounds. 

Warsaw’s Alex Jordan (152) and Josh Pelfrey (160) picked up JV wins. 

The varsity Tigers will compete Saturday at Northridge in the Raider Duals, while Warsaw’s JV team will compete Saturday at Plymouth’s individual tournament. 



Wawasee Grapplers Roll Over Goshen

GOSHEN – Another match, another victory for the Wawasee wrestling team.

The Warriors (12-1, 3-0 NLC) won 38-29 Thursday in a Northern Lakes Conference match at Goshen.

Dylan Tom (113 pounds), Alec Wortinger (126), and Isaiah Tipping (220) won by fall for the Warriors.

Wawasee’s Geremia Brooks (132) won 22-6 by technical fall, while Isiah Farrote (152) won 20-3 by technical fall.

Braxton Alexander (138) won 13-5 by major decision for the Warriors, while Logan Baugh (160) won by 4-2 decision and Alex Castro (182) won a 9-2 decision. 

Wawasee’s Dominick Blair (160 pounds) and Evan Gregory (170 pounds) picked up wins in the JV match. 

The Warriors will host Concord Thursday. 



Squires Squash Vikings

NORTH MANCHESTER – The Manchester wrestling team won 50-27 Thursday in a home match against Tippecanoe Valley. 

Manchester’s Eli Burlingame won 18-1 by technical fall, while Dylan Stroud (126), Peyton Addair (138), Andrew Cagle (160), Delton Moore (170), Trescott Duffy (182), Ashton Moore (195), Joseph Irons (220) and Bryce Kampheus (285) earned pins.

Valley’s Haley Hoover (106) won by forfeit, while Drake Montelongo (113) and Branson McBrier (132) won by fall for the Vikings.

The Vikings won 12-6 in the JV match, with Joel Ordaz-Cisneros and James Borntrager winning by fall. 

Valley’s Jacob Eherenman (145) won a 10-8 decision. 



Warsaw Boys, Girls Drop Swim Meets

The Warsaw boys and girls swim teams lost a home Northern Lakes Conference meet Thursday against Northridge.

The boys lost 98-82, while the girls fell 144-42. 

Grant Knight won the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.74, and Alex Cook won the 100 freestyle in 51.62 for the Tigers.

Warsaw’s Kevin Fisher won the 1-meter diving competition with a total score of 116.05.  



Valley Falls At Maconaquah

BUNKER HILL – The Tippecanoe Valley boys and girls swim teams dropped a pair of meets Thursday at Maconaquah.

Valley’s boys lost 128-46, while the girls team was defeated 141-41. 

Mason Stephen won the 50 freestyle in 24.63 and 100 breaststroke (1:12.06) for the Vikings, while Dakota Prater won the 500 freestyle (5:43.45) and Brandon Hoffman won the 100 backstroke (1:04.26). 

On the girls side, Valley’s Olivia Livengood won the 100 butterfly (1:06.61). 



Simfukwe, Warsaw Top Plymouth

Judah Simfukwe scored 17 points to lead the Warsaw freshman boys basketball team to a 51-29 home win Thursday over Plymouth.

Warsaw (4-1, 1-0 Northern Lakes Conference) started strong with an 11-2 first quarter, and never trailed after that. 

Daylan Vermilyer scored nine points for the Tigers, while Hunter Rice had eight points, Jeremy Ryman had six points, Kyle Dawson had five points, Tyler Kuhn recorded four points and Will Burnett had two points.

Caden Weidner led Plymouth (3-2, 2-1 NLC) with 12 points.



Warriors Rout RedHawks

SYRACUSE – Jackson Stover scored 11 points to lead the Wawasee freshman boys basketball team to a 48-16 rout Thursday in a home game against Goshen. 

Caden Welty and Landon Gause scored eight points each, while Keaton Dukes, Nate Larson, Grant Brooks and Gavin Unziker all scored four points. 

The Warriors (4-0, 1-0 Northern Lakes Conference) will play Thursday at Warsaw.
