A 16-year-old Warsaw boy has been waived to adult court to face four felony counts alleging he broke into a business and two homes over the summer.
Dillon M. Ong, 16, of 924 E. Market St., is charged by Kosciusko County Prosecutors with Class C felony burglary, and two Class D counts of theft and another Class D charge of residential entry. He was waived to adult court Sept. 20.
According to Ong’s charging information, police allege he broke into a man’s home June 25, then the Smokey Bone’s Tobacco store at 810 E. Winona Ave. on July 7, and finally another home overnight Aug. 1-2.
No specific details about the break-ins were available in court documents.
Kosciusko Superior Court Judge Duane Huffer wrote in his waiver ruling that because the offense would be felonies had they been committed by an adult, and because Ong was over 14, he was fit to face charges in adult court. Huffer said the charges are “part of a repetitive pattern of behavior” and that Ong “is beyond rehabilitation under the juvenile justice system.”
Ong’s juvenile record was unavailable.
“It is in the best interest of respondent child and the community that respondent child stand trial as an adult,” Huffer wrote.
Ong was released following that Sept. 20 waiver ruling. He was arrested just after 9 p.m. Monday to face the adult charges.
Ong was fixed a $5,000 cash-only bond and remains in the Kosciusko County Jail.
