Some unusual activity at Pike Lake early this morning led to the apprehension of stolen firearms and marijuana. Adrias Jamison Bornes, 18, of 520 S. Columbia St., Warsaw, was arrested on six counts of possession of stolen property, one count of dealing in marijuana within 1,000 feet of a public park, possession of alcohol by a minor and possession of a handgun without a license. While on patrol, officers noticed two men playing with remote-controlled cars in the parking lot of Pike Lake Beach. Upon further investigation, the officers checked identifications and found that the two men were Bornes and Bogdan Alexandru Visan, both 18. The officers informed them that they were in violation of the Warsaw City Park hours. Officers then saw a bottle of E&J Brandy on the floorboard of Bornes’ 1990 Toyota Celica. Officers asked whose alcohol the brandy was, and Bornes informed them that it was his. He told officers that he got the alcohol from his cousin. Bornes told officers that there wasn’t any more alcohol in the vehicle, and then granted the officers permission to retrieve the bottle of brandy from the floorboard. Officers then asked Bornes if he would open the trunk and allow them to look in the trunk, and he complied. Once the trunk was open, officers found five rifles; a .22 caliber rifle and four Remington shotguns. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the rifles were stolen. Bornes told officers that the guns were his cousin’s, who was at work, and that he was just holding onto them for a while. When officers attempted to contact his cousin to speak with him about the guns, Bornes became agitated and admitted the guns were his. He then asked that officers do not contact his cousin. Bornes told officers that he had bought the guns “off the street” for $50 each. He also told officers that he had purchased the guns from three or four different people, but assumed they were stolen from the same place. When officers asked Borne if there were any other weapons in the vehicle, he informed them that there was a Smith and Wesson .357 under the driver’s seat. When officers retrieved the gun, they also found a box with several small baggies of marijuana and a digital scale. When asked if Bornes was dealing marijuana, he responded “that was the plan.” Bornes was arrested and transported to the Kosciusko County Jail and booked on a $5,000 bond. As of press time, Bornes had not bonded out of jail.
