Warsaw Teen Faces Felony Counterfeiting ChargeA Warsaw teen was arrested on counterfeiting charges Friday after allegedly passing fake $100 bills to another man in July.

Shawn Edward Shepherd, 19, of 920 Anchorage Road, lot 54, Warsaw, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 4:51 p.m. Friday for counterfeiting, a level 6 felony. His preliminary bond was set at $5,750.

On July 13, Warsaw Police Department was dispatched to a gas station in reference to counterfeit bills. The gas station management told the Warsaw officer that a man attempted to pass two $100 bills. Both bills were found to be counterfeit.

The man told the officer that he received the bills from Shepherd, who owed him money. He said he tried to deposit the bills into an ATM but it did not accept them. He then tried to exchange the bills for smaller bills at the gas station so he could deposit them in the ATM, according to court documents filed July 31.

He said he had no knowledge that the bills Shepherd gave him were counterfeit.

WPD Detective Paul Heaton made contact with Shepherd on July 18. Shepherd admitted he gave both $100 bills to the man and that he knew they were counterfeit.
