A 17-year-old Warsaw male faces drunk driving charges after crashing the car he was driving into a utility pole on CR 250S.

Eric Metcalf of South Ferguson Road, Warsaw, suffered head injuries in the 3:42 p.m. accident east of Packerton Road near Warsaw. He was treated at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, and later released to the Bowen Center for evaluation.

According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department report, Metcalf was eastbound on CR 250S when he reportedly swerved to miss an animal in the roadway and went off the road, striking a utility pole and breaking it off.

Medics treating Metcalf at the scene when police arrived told officers that the teen-ager smelled of an alcohol beverage. Drug and alcohol screens were performed at KCH and Metcalf reportedly had a blood-alcohol level of .135 percent; .10 percent is considered legally drunk in Indiana. The drug tests came back negative. Charges of driving while intoxicated and public intoxication are pending against Metcalf.

Damage to Metcalf's car is estimated at $2,500 to $5,000 and damage to the REMC pole is less than $750.
