A Warsaw teen was arrested early today on charges that she allegedly stabbed and threatened to kill another teen after a flare-up at a west-side party.

Latasha Ibarra, 18, of 3457 W. CR 100S, Warsaw, is in custody on an preliminary felony aggravated battery charge, accused of stabbing 18-year-old Chance M. Cochran in the leg with a 6-inch kitchen knife during a party at Cochran’s home at 1908 Ironwood Road around 1 a.m. today.

Kosciusko County Sheriff’s deputies and medics were called to the home for the reported stabbing, and found Cochran suffering from a wound. Ibarra was immediately placed under arrest, according to sheriff’s department spokesman Sgt. Chad Hill.

Detectives learned that during a party at Cochran’s home, Ibarra and her boyfriend - 19-year-old Miguel Anjel Peredia, of Elkhart - had begun fighting in a bedroom of the home when Cochran confronted the couple. Witnesses said Peredia then swung at Cochran, and a physical fight ensued, Hill said.

It was then that witnesses said Ibarra left the room and came back armed with a 6-inch kitchen knife, yelling that she was “going to cut your throat,” Hill said. The teen then allegedly chased Cochran down a hallway until he fell, at which point police said she stabbed him in the leg, Hill said.

Medics transferred Cochran to Kosciusko Community Hospital with a 1 1/2-inch gash to the leg. He has been treated and released, Hill said.

Ibarra is being held in Kosciusko County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

Peredia was also jailed on a charge of being a minor in possession of alcohol. He was fixed a $300 bond.
