Warsaw Kiwanis Club and Key Club volunteers raked leaves and cut fall grasses at the Warsaw Biblical Gardens Saturday morning.

Approximately 15 volunteers spent three hours Saturday preparing the gardens for spring visitors.

The day was part of "Kiwanis One Day," a global volunteer action day celebrated around the world by Kiwanis International including Kiwanis, Circle K, Key Club, Builder's Club, Aktion Club, K-Kids and Kiwanis Junior."Kiwanis Club is about serving the children of this community, and many children visit this garden that is a blessing to this community," said Warsaw Kiwanis Club President Chuck Whitcraft.

Dick Dobbins, who has been a Kiwanis member for 26 years, raked leaves by a Redbud tree in the Biblical Gardens.

"Our organization tries to do what we can to help out the community and this couldn't be a better day to get the garden ready for spring," Dobbins said.

Chelsea Armacost, Key Club president and a senior at Warsaw Community High School, said the organization was happy to volunteer.

"I am happy and excited to be a part of the project because the Key Club likes to get involved in projects that better the community," Armacost said.

Armacost's sister, Jessica, also a Key Club member and freshman at WCHS, raked leaves in an English Ivy bed.

"I have been a member of Key Club for a year and I am glad we can make the Biblical Gardens more beautiful," Jessica said.

Kevin Zachary, Kiwanian and Biblical Gardens board member, said the work was appreciated.

"It is nice to have the help from the two organizations because the Biblical Gardens survives on volunteers and donations," Zachary said.

He said the garden brings bus tours, church groups and groups from the central part of the state each year.

The Biblical Gardens will be open for tours May 15 through Sept. 15.

The Warsaw Kiwanis Club and Key Club will hold an all-you-can eat pancake and egg breakfast April 26 from 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Center Lake Pavilion.

Tickets are $5 before April 26 and can be purchased by calling Whitcraft at 574-267-3058. Tickets also can be purchased at the door for $6 and children six and under get in for $3.

Proceeds will benefit Riley Hospital For Children.
