Warsaw School Board Swears In New Members

Most officer positions for the Warsaw School Board will remain the same in 2013 as 2012.
After new board members Randy Polston, Jay Baumgartner and Curt Hermann were sworn in by board attorney Max Reed, the board unanimously renamed Jennifer Tandy as president.
Matt Dick will again serve as vice president.
Dan Metzger, who served as board secretary in 2012, nominated Delores Hearn for the position in 2013. She was unanimously chosen.
The board’s meeting times and dates will remain at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month, except for May, September and December. Those months’ meetings will be May 20, Sept. 16 and Dec. 16.
Work sessions will remain the third Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m., with the exception of February, September and December. Those meetings will be Feb. 12, Sept. 10 and Dec. 10.
Dates for Superintendent Dr. Craig Hintz’s evaluation also were established after some discussion. The superintendent’s written self-evaluation is due by April 15, with the board members’ evaluations of Hintz due by May 1. Discussion on the evaluations will be completed by May 31. At the June board meeting, a summary of the superintendent’s evaluation will be presented to the public.
Board committee appointments will be discussed at the public work session and then announced at the Jan. 28 meeting, Tandy said. There are 22 committees.
The board also:
• appointed Erica Purvis as Warsaw Community Schools treasurer;
• appointed Kara Leisure as treasurer’s deputy treasurer;
• appointed Nicole Wills as executive secretary to the board;
• established a copy fee for records at 10 cents per page;
• appointed the same officers and members of the board of school trustees as officers and members of the board of finance;
• established compensation for board members. Each member receives an annual salary of $2,000 and a per diem of no more than $3,000 per year, and may not receive more than $5,000 per year. Per meeting, board members receive $112 for a regular meeting, and $62 for a committee meeting, but may not receive more than the annual $5,000 maximum;
• designated Lake City Bank as the cash management provider;
• appointed Reed & Earhart as the school board’s attorney;
• designated the Times-Union as the official newspaper for legal notices to the public;
• established mileage reimbursement at 56.5 cents per mile.
