Warsaw School Board heard Tuesday about how the high school students did on Advanced Placement exams in 2026.
Warsaw Community High School Principal Troy Akers shared the AP results for 2026.
He said over the last three years, the test results have continued to climb “and I think that’s the most important factor.”
He went over the three different AP Scholar distinctions.
The AP Scholar distinction is for students who score a 3 or higher in three AP exams. There were 32 students in 2026 that were AP Scholars. The score of 3 will allow those classes to transfer to any college or university within Indiana “and it’s more globally accepted maybe than some of our dual credits,” Akers said. The average score was 3.26.
The AP Scholar with Honors is for students who score a 3 or higher on at least four exams. There were 11 students who received this distinction in 2026. The average score was 3.83.
AP Scholar with Distinction is for students who score a 3 or higher on at least five exams. There were 15 students who received this distinction. The average score was 4.21.
Between 2025 and 2026, the high school jumped 6% in students scoring 3 or higher on AP exams.
In 2025, about 74% of students taking AP exams scored a 3 or higher. There were 214 students who took 344 AP exams, of which 159 had scores of 3 or higher.
In 2026, about 80% of students taking AP exams scored a 3 or higher. There were 251 students who took 401 exams, of which 202 exams had a score of 3 or higher.
Akers shared data of how some of the classes scored on the exams. Most average scores were above the state and global averages. Some of the data Akers shared included the English Literature and Composition AP exam. There were 36 students at WCHS who took the exam, with an average score of 3.44. The average state score was 3.15 and the average global score was 3.21.
For the Spanish Language and Culture AP exam, there were 48 students who took the exam. The average score for WCHS students was 3.54. The average state score was 3.34 and the average global score was 3.5.
There were 11 students who took the United States Government and Politics AP exam, with an average score of 4.36. The state average score was 3.27 and a global average score of 3.42.
There were also exams where the WCHS didn’t meet the state or global averages. One of them included Physics C: Mechanics. There were 19 students who took the exam, with an average score of 2.53. The average state score was 3.19 and the average global score was 3.33.
There were 30 students who took the U.S. History AP exam, with an average score of 2.97. The average state score was 3.14 and an average global score was 3.29.
Akers said he’s talked to the board several times about providing the right type of materials the teachers need to help “get these kids over the hump.” Something the high school has been using since its inception is Albert.io, which is a computer-assisted program the school purchases each year that allows the students to “go a little deeper in their AP prep.” The program isn’t limited to the classroom and allows students to study as hard and as long as they want to.
Akers said he is always proud of the senior class, who finish knowing they have all those AP credits and who have also taken dual credit classes that will also transfer over to college.
“So we have students that are very well prepared and obviously they go to college and they may already have a year or year and a half in. It’s an amazing opportunity we have for our kids,” he said, adding there were also juniors that were on one of the AP Scholar lists.
Akers said while he’s proud of the students individually, he’s also proud of the teachers and their hard work.
