Warsaw Planners to Review Anchorage Commercial Subdivision Road Improvements

Posted
Warsaw Plan Commission will review recommendations for road improvements for Anchorage Point Commercial Subdivision Monday.

The seven-lot subdivision has not been built, but will be located on Anchorage Road and U.S. 30 by Wong’s at the northwest corner of where Meijer will be located.

Warsaw Traffic Safety Commission, during its meeting Wednesday, approved making recommendations to Warsaw Plan Commission for improvements to the subdivision area.

The traffic panel approved making a recommendation to the plan commission that once four of the lots are built in the subdivision, that the developer would be required to put in left turn lanes at both entrances for eastbound traffic.

The initial build will require an eastbound right turn lane, and at 50 percent buildout of the subdivision there be a left turn lane at the west entrance of the subdivision.

The proposal also is to ask Wong’s to move its entrance to Anchorage Point Drive.

Tim Dombrosky, Warsaw assistant city planner, said there is a lack of sidewalks on Anchorage Road.

He suggested there be sidewalks installed along Anchorage Road.

“We want to make sure we have traffic taken care of on Anchorage Road to accommodate the traffic that will come for Meijer,” Kip Shuter, traffic commission administrator, said.

Shuter said he is suggesting the commission begin thinking about parking on East Market Street from Wood Street, that is east of Fribley Field, to McKinley Street.

There is currently parking on Market Street. Current plans of the Warsaw-Winona Lake Ride and Walk Committee are that the bicycle path leading from Winona Lake to Warsaw’s Chinworth Trail may travel along Market Street.

The idea would be to consider eliminating parking on Market Street, Shuter said.

During the meeting, commission member Dan Robinson suggested the striping be repainted under the viaduct by the Warsaw Building and Planning and Street Department on Hand Street.

Robinson said the paint on the road is hard to see.

Lacy Francis, street superintendent, said he will look into the issue.

In other business, the commission decided to contact Indiana Department of Transportation to see if traffic lane improvements are warranted at Fisher Avenue and Kincaide Street such as a traffic signal or lane striping.

Shuter will contact INDOT about the improvements.

The commission approved changing the days and time of its meetings to the first Thursday of the month at 1 p.m. at Warsaw Police Department.
