A week ago, the Warsaw football team used some explosive plays to find the end zone in what was a thrilling comeback victory over Snider. However, the offense struggled to move the ball with any consistency. Fast forward to Friday night’s game against Northrop, and the Tigers found themselves just two yards away from clinching a victory.
Facing a 4th and 2 from their own 23 with a little over two minutes left, Warsaw elected to go for it, and was rewarded for its bravery. The Tigers picked it up and were able to run out the clock for a 2928 victory, the second straight thrilling contest at Fisher Field claimed by the home team.
Warsaw had another monster day on the ground, totalling 380 rushing yards. After a 200+ yard performance by Tucker Reed a week ago, this time it was Michael Schenck leading the way with 217 to go with two scores. Reed also had his fingerprints on the win, running for 90 yards, 70 of them coming on a long touchdown. Just two weeks into the season, Reed now has three rushing touchdowns of at least 70 yards.
The game was a back-and-forth affair for the entirety of it. The Bruins got out to a 6-0 lead five minutes into the game on a five-yard run by Kobe Reese. It took the Tigers just over two minutes to respond on an 18-yard carry by Schenck. Warsaw went on to take its first lead of the night on a six-yard run by Mason Silveus two minutes into the second quarter. The team did not trail again for the rest of the night.
The game saw two more scores in the final three minutes before the half. Northrop tied it up with 2:55 left on a passing play by Braydon Peppler to Jaydin Hollar. Just 80 seconds later though, Reed would break loose for his long score to give his team a touchdown lead at the break.
Reese ran for a pair of scores in the second half, but another Schenck touchdown sandwiched in the middle was enough for the Tigers to hold on to a one-point victory. Warsaw is now 2-0 for the first time since the 2023 season, when the team started 5-0 and went on to finish 9-2.
The orange and black will look to make it three wins in a row next Friday when they travel to NorthWood to play both their first road game as well as the Northern Lakes Conference opener.
