A Warsaw man is in serious condition this morning in a Fort Wayne hospital after his mo-ped collided with a dog near Claypool Wednesday afternoon. Robert L. Hawley, 84, Warsaw, was being attended to by family members on CR 50W when emergency crews and Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrived shortly after 1:30 p.m. Hawley was headed north on CR 50W on his 1964 Allstate 788 scooter when a 93-pound German shepherd entered the road. Hawley was unable to avoid the dog and was thrown from his scooter onto the road, according to the release from the Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team. Multi-Township EMS arrived and immediately requested Samaritan helicopter due to head injuries that Hawley suffered during the crash. Hawley was airlifted to Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, and was reportedly still in serious condition today. The owner of the German shepherd reportedly ran the dog back into the residence, but its medical status was unknown, according to First Sgt. Chad Hill, KCSD public information officer.
