Warsaw Man Sentenced After Pleading Guilty to Strangling Roommate to Death

A Warsaw man who was arrested in 2013 for allegedly strangling his roommate to death was sentenced for voluntary manslaughter Tuesday.
Robert Edward Hurley, 55, was sentenced to 20 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections with 941 days credit. Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Mike Reed ordered the sentence on the Class B felony charge after accepting Hurley’s plea agreement.
On March 2, 2013, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to lot 34 of the mobile home park at 2441 W. CR 250S, Warsaw, around 12:47 p.m. to conduct a welfare check.
Upon arrival, deputies found a deceased male, identified as Lionel Dale King, then 51, who appeared to have been strangled by a cord. King was Hurley’s roommate.
Following an investigation, detectives determined that Hurley contacted a family member about his involvement in the strangling earlier that day. Family members contacted KCSD with the information, leading to the initial welfare check on King.
KCSD crime scene technicians obtained evidence that was indicative of King being strangled by a cord and subsequently dragged into a bedroom inside the mobile home.
Hurley was remanded Tuesday to the custody of the county sheriff for execution of his sentence.
